Clay masks
A clay mask really does mop up oil. One study measured a big shine drop right after use. The honest asterisk: that study had no comparison group and lasted only a month, so it can't tell you the mask beat just washing your face, and the oil creeps back within hours. Left on too long or used too often, clay leaves skin tight and irritated. A fun once-in-a-while thing, not a routine step.
what the evidence says
A single-arm, manufacturer-funded study (60 people, 4 weeks) showed short-lived surface oil reduction with no control group, so benefit over plain washing is unproven.
